Could early childhood education be free at Imatra someday? Among other things, Imatra is working towards that with its new program of measures.

The action program takes a position on the swimming hall and free early childhood education.

On the basis of the Energinen Imatra 2030 city strategy, a separate action program has been drawn up, which includes practical actions to implement the strategy.

Today, Monday (November 28.11), the city government discussed the program of measures and will present it to the council for approval.

The economy's goals consist of four different entities:

  • The city's indebtedness will stop in 2027 at the latest.
  •  Expenditures grow more slowly than the price index of basic municipal services.
  • The goal is an annual profit of at least 10 million euros.
  • The municipal tax level will increase by no more than one percentage point during the council term.

Regarding operational goals, the action program contains guidelines for future planning. Detailed decisions will be made later.

A few examples of the action program:

  • We are implementing Imatra's new swimming hall in connection with the Imatra spa, ensuring that the hobby of swimming will continue to be affordable and accessible to all Imatra residents.
  • We are building the most attractive fishing tourism destination in Southern Finland from Vuoksi.
  • We purposefully move forward the wilderness and nature culture museum, and strengthen children's relationship with nature in teaching and early childhood education.
  •  Imatra aims for free early childhood education.

The content of the action program was discussed and outlined at the council seminar in mid-November.

- The action program is a longer-term guiding tool for implementing the strategy. Final investment and financing decisions are made on a case-by-case basis, acting mayor Matias Hilden says.
