Cross-border traffic from Imatra to Svetogorsk started on March 17.3.1972, 1990, after the construction of the pulp and paper mill in Svetogorsk began. Until 6.7.1990, traffic was almost exclusively construction site traffic. The first domestic tourist trips were organized by bus on July XNUMX, XNUMX, organized by Imatra's tourism service.
Imatra became an international border crossing point in the summer of 2002, and the number of passengers passing through it has been increasing throughout its opening period.
It is only 7 kilometers from Imatra to the neighboring town of Svetogorsk. You can also cross the border by bicycle.
