Imatrankoski, the most famous attraction of Imatra, is located in the center of Imatra, after which the center also got its name.
The rapids are run from the sluice gates on summer evenings.
There is also a fairytale castle on the brink of the waterfall Hotel Valtionhotelli and I touched harnessed Fortum (former The Power of Imatra) power plant, which when completed in 1929 was Finland's largest producer of hydropower. Finland's first nature reserve (since 1842), Kruununpuisto-park, is located in the area between the rapids and the power plant.
Imatrankoski also has one of Finland's most pleasant pedestrian streets, Rapids beard, which in summer is filled with happy summer celebrants. A theater building opened in 2017 is located in Imatrankoski. Theater Imatra also offers experiences in the covered summer theater near the lower part of the Imatra rapids.
