Walkers is a form of youth work developed by Aseman Lapset ry, which is based on the time and presence of adult volunteers for young people.
The purpose of the activity is to promote the independence of young people and to grow into responsible adults. The activity is preventive youth work, where ordinary adults are encouraged to become volunteers.
At Walkers, adult volunteers are the core of the entire operation, because the operation is based on a natural and safe interaction between adults and young people.
At Walkers, we invest in high-quality and unhurried meetings for young people. The adults involved in the activity are on the side of the young people and for the young people. At Walkers, we have a dream of a youth-friendly society. Now also on Imatra!
The Walkers activity started in Imatra in March 2023. The organizers of the activity are the city of Imatra, the parish of Imatra and trained voluntary adults.
Mobile youth work was tried out by youth workers in the autumn of 2022 in the context of the Walkers car episode.
Based on the trial period, it was decided to establish the activity as a longer-term part of the multiprofessional youth work at Imatra. A motorhome was acquired for the activity, which was converted into a Walkers car (nicknamed Wauto), which will continue to serve as a meeting place for young people with a low threshold.
Schedules will be updated on Instagram at the beginning of the week: walkers mattress.
Walkers Imatra is looking for adult volunteers to join its activities. More information: www.walkers.fi/wapariksi.
