Preschool education

The statutory pre-school education organized by the city of Imatra is intended for all children under school age one year before the child's compulsory schooling begins. 

Six-year-olds and five-year-old children who are subject to extended compulsory schooling have the right to free pre-school education. In addition, the right to receive free pre-school education applies to those seven-year-olds whose start of basic education has been postponed by a year.

In pre-school education, the operating hours of the schools are observed. The duration of preschool education is at least 700 hours a year and about four hours a day. Preschool education follows the preschool curriculum of the city of Imatra.

Pre-school education before the start of school is functionally early childhood education. The child's guardian must ensure that the child participates in pre-school education or other activities that achieve the goals of pre-school education.

If the child needs supplementary early childhood education in addition to preschool education, apply for it with an early childhood education application. Pre-school time is free of charge. A customer fee is charged for supplementary early childhood education.

Pre-primary education functions as basic education according to working and holiday hours.

The pre-school place is determined according to the child's planning area. Children from the own planning area are always primarily accepted for local pre-school. If there is space, children from other places can also be admitted to the planning area.

Registering for preschool education

The guardian receives information about the pre-school place offered to the child at the beginning of January.
