Beach construction has sparked discussion among city residents. Lempukka and Hossuka beaches would remain a reserve area. Housing would be made possible, for example, in connection with the Lammassaari harbor area.

Imatra's protracted master plan process is moving towards the finish line. The plan proposal is likely to become visible at the beginning of next year.

- We are working all the time to ensure that the plan proposal can be publicly evaluated in a few months. The planning solution is mostly ready, but some individual items need to be checked and new ideas worked on, planning manager Marja Pelo says.

The general plan proposal will be available for viewing for about a month and feedback can be given. If there are no more big reminders, the council could get the proposal approved next summer.

Drawing up a master plan is always a marathon, but at Imatra the work has taken an exceptionally long time. The preparation of the formula started already in 2016. The draft was presented for the first time in XNUMX 2022. It was preceded by a participation and evaluation plan.

- If the preparation drags on, some of the reports may become outdated, Pelo states.

Saaret, Hossukka and Lempukka still in recreational use

At Imatra, in the preparation of the master plan, the most critical feedback has been caused by the Saimaa waterfront areas reserved for construction. Initially, it was proposed to allow beach construction in Lempukka and Hossukka, among others.

In the latest proposal, both Hossuka and Lempuka beaches are to be left as construction reserve areas, so the areas will practically remain in recreational use in the future. Nor is residential construction proposed for the islands, says Pelo.

For beach plots or residences near the beach, it is necessary of previous surveys however, based on the need at Imatra.

Before the proposal putting it on display, we are still investigating whether some plots could be reserved for beach construction on the mainland beach east of Malonsaari. In practice, the place is located near the boathouses, at the end of Paperharjuntie. There, municipal engineering solutions could be reasonable.

- The area's challenge is the steep slope, so it is hardly possible to think of many beach construction sites there, Pelo states.

Some plots in the Ukonniemi area and Lammassaari?

The new master plan could enable the realization of permanent housing on a larger scale than at present in the Ukonniemi area, for example in connection with the port of Lammassaari. The plan proposal has been reviewed in a joint meeting of the chairmen of the council groups and the urban development board at the beginning of October.

- One of the points of the city's strategy is the provision of versatile living opportunities. The master plan has been able to take this into account both in the short and longer term. In particular, the Ukonniemi area offers the fastest opportunities for living by Saimaa, the mayor Matias Hilden says.

Inspection of the plots will be done next to the existing Lammasaarenti, around the marina. It's not about private land.

- There, too, the possibility of construction sites would be small, as recreational use of the area and protection of nature trails is a priority. In addition, the shape of the land there also creates its own challenge, so it could be less than ten plots, says Pelo about the idea to be explored.

In addition, the port's so-called close to the fish restaurant property, would make permanent living possible. The Ukonniemi holiday home area is also being considered for marking, where permanent housing is being investigated.

The master plan generally controls land use. Site plans are made based on it. That is, the general plan does not yet give permission for construction.

General plan proposal the preparation is currently being worked on by the consultant, i.e. Ramboli. It composes nature proposal so that the goal is to get the proposal to the city for further preparation in December and for public viewing in early 2024.

Not with my tax money…

Nothing like this with my tax money. I'm coming to Lammassaari specifically for the ecotourism and nature and unspoiled nature. I guess those trips will stay here in the west... where this trip went too..

I am shocked…

I am shocked by your actions, nothing to do with Lammassaari. The only place that has survived your activities. Historically valuable! And yet
Would you dare to advertise it on your website...
This only enables inequality, the rich's money weighs more on you. I think that's shameful. When the area could be developed for everyone's use, for community activities. For example. Experimental archaeology? Activities for families with children? So you could get on the map in no time, when tourists also come to the port.

Has no one suggested, for example, an exhibition of Stone Age dwellings found in nature? A re-creation of a Stone Age museum village? Something for children and families to marvel at? The people of Imatra would be proud that you have such a unique site that you could develop in this direction! You would be the only ones in Finland to have one like this!

Not at all…

Absolutely not the remaining undeveloped beach plots in Lammassaari for construction! The residents of Lammassaari also need the beaches of Lammassaari for our own well-being, coping with everyday life, recreation, and connection with nature. Nature also deserves to be left untouched. For many, Lammassaari is an important part of their lives, all year round. Many people have already signed an address demanding that the beaches remain as they are. I would hope that the decision-makers would listen to the residents of this city, us taxpayers. Is it better to take care of the well-being of the existing and real people, or to take expensive and in a way final measures to try to attract taxpayers who are currently not even real, but wishful thinking.
