212 people answered the survey, about half of them from other than South Karelia.

The test marketing of beach plots produced a total of 212 responses from people who were interested in living by the Saimaa in Imatra. 108 of them also left their contact information.

Initially, we thought that there would be around 100 people interested. In that sense, the number of responses was a positive surprise. Clearly, the quality of life factors are particularly strong now, when people think about where they want to live, the CEO of Imatra Base Camp, which carried out the survey Jukka Aallikko says.

Almost 50 percent of the respondents stated that they currently live somewhere other than South Karelia. Uusimaa (32,5 percent) is particularly attracted to Imatra waterfront plots.

The largest group of respondents (66,5 percent) is 35 years old60 year olds. Also a younger age group of 2135-year-olds were well represented (about 28 percent).

The respondents wished for wooded, private beach plots for detached houses. The mini-houses of less than 100 square meters also aroused interest.

Trial marketing was carried out in May-July with a testing mindset. The city wanted information on whether there is a need for zoning of beach plots.

Currently, no zoning process is underway for these plots. Now is the time to map out all possible options for waterfront construction in Imatra, both for Saimaa and Vuoksi, chairman of the city board Anna Helminen says.

The results of the test marketing were presented to the city council on Monday. The government gave the city development services a mandate to compile the alternatives for the plan preparation of the waterfront construction so that the city government can make further guidelines regarding the waterfront construction during the fall.
