The ban lasts until the required repairs have been made. Estimated duration several weeks.

The use of the sports hall's running track and one office room is prohibited. The ban will take effect from tomorrow Friday, i.e. 31.1. from The ban is valid until the premises are repaired to make them safe. The estimated duration of the ban is several weeks.

Mayor Kai Roslakka made an official decision on the matter today after receiving a recommendation for a ban on use from the indoor air working group that met in the morning.

The reason for the ban is the microbial findings on the wall on the Vuok side of the property. Raklamit Oy, which conducts indoor air surveys, took samples from the wall and microbes were found in them.

According to the report, a ray fungus was also found in the samples, which is one of the most harmful in terms of indoor air, chairman of the indoor air working group Sami Turunen says.

The studies were started due to the feedback received from customers and previous fitness surveys. The problem is in the insulation layers of the outer wall. Because the wall structures are not tight, microbes have access to the interior.

Investigations are continuing

The indoor air working group has not yet received a repair proposal report from the RakLamit company. The indoor air working group meets immediately when the report is ready. The group assesses whether the proposed measures are sufficient so that the facilities can be put back into use. The aim of the repairs is to ensure that the premises can be used for the rest of the property's life cycle. The city government has outlined, that the property will not be extensively renovated, but a new sports hall and swimming hall will be built in the city.

The indoor air working group decided on Thursday that investigations related to air quality will continue in the premises of the sports hall. They are allocated to spaces that are completely or partially underground.

The city starts looking for replacement facilities for treadmill users. The closed office room has already been taken out of use.

To the indoor air working group includes representatives from occupational health and safety, environmental health care, occupational health, technical housekeeping, welfare services, building supervision (HVAC), Saimaa's support services and the city's facilities management.
