Survey of Mansikkala school center facilities

Emergency exits from the premises in two directions.

After a good month of experience, it's time to do the previously promised first user-directed survey about the Mansikkala school center's facilities.

The first survey is aimed at the largest user group, i.e. elementary and high school students, guardians and staff. A larger survey for all user groups will be carried out in January-February, when experience has also been gained during the winter season.

Of course, we accept feedback all the time anyway, space and safety manager Sami Turunen says.

You can answer the short survey via the attached link. The survey is open on Thursday 24.9. until the evening.

Such a large property will only be completed after the users' experiences and development works based on them. That way, the work is still a work in progress. and now it's important for users to provide feedback.

Changes already made

Feedback from the school has already been received. The feedback has mostly been positive, especially the brightness and air quality of the school. The yard has also been praised.

Based on the feedback, we have already acquired our own trays for everyone to eat, so that eating has become more functional, says Turunen.

We are currently thinking about some open learning environments in terms of muting the sound world and dividing spaces with, for example, transfer walls.

Beäkkeitä has already been acquired and more detailed planning of the transfer walls is already underway. In addition, we map whether the use of the space is evenly distributed. For example, we aim for small students to organize more space, Turunen comments.

To some extent, the need for space has also been affected by positive migration. Usually, about twenty children from outside the city move to the city in the summer. Now, 80 children have moved during the summer. However, not all movers have settled only in Mansikkala.

Exit routes tested

There has also been discussion on social media about exit routes from the wooden school and their adequacy.

Mansikkala school center has an emergency exit in at least two directions from each building. The rescue authorities have checked the matter and this has also been taken into account in the planning phase. The school is really big and you might not notice it with a quick glance, Turunen reassures.

The staff knows how to act in different threat situations and which way to exit. In addition, all exterior doors of the building can be locked using emergency buttons if necessary.

Escape routes have already been tested in August, when the entire school had to evacuate due to an unwarranted alarm. At that time, the experience of exit routes was positive. The exercise went well.
