Imatra was taken today, August 13.8. Finland's largest wooden school for use.

A new building with a size of 11 usable square meters opened in Mansikkala. It is truly made of wood, as only the foundations, shelters and stairs are concrete. Early childhood education (day care and daycare) has already taken the thief's departure, which has been operating in the premises for a good week.

750 elementary school students, 410 high school students and 310 preschool and early childhood education students started the school year at the new school.

- The atmosphere is good after the first day. The students praised the facilities a lot and many were surprised, for example in the canteen, that there was no noise in the large space, the headmaster of the elementary school Lasse Tiilikka stated at the end of the day.

The decision-makers of the city of Imatra made a national big decision in October 2016 that all risky real estate on the school side will be given up. The old properties no longer served today's needs. A big influence on the solutions was also the fact that we wanted to offer all children guaranteed healthy learning environments.

The first school center was completed a year ago, now it's the wooden school's turn, and the third new school center will be completed next fall.

The 2016 decision did not only concern schools. The daycare network was also renewed at the same time. All three school centers offer pre-school education and two of them have their own kindergarten.

YIT got the contract for the wood school. Architectural firm Perko has been responsible for the architectural design of the property. The building is an interesting ensemble formed by wood and light, both from the outside and from the inside.

The investment has been implemented as a life-cycle project, which means that the builder is responsible for the maintenance of the property for 20 years.
