Various functions were proposed for the former nursery area located at the foot of Ukonniemi, from a land swimming pool to an observation tower. The ideation carried out during the spring forms the basis of the design competition organized by the city of Imatra and Lappset Oy in autumn 2019, which seeks a solution for the development of the Taimitarha area.

City gardener Erika Luhtanen is pleased with the proposals that would expand the region's service offering more to all people. According to him, the answers show that Ukonniemi could be an even stronger place for the whole family to enjoy themselves.

- The suggestions have functions even for users who don't actively do anything. The area would be used by people of all ages in all seasons, at least partially. And the environmental aspect has also been taken into account, so that it would not be such a sandy desert, characterizes Luhtanen's answers.

According to Luhtanen, there was a lot of functionality in the ideas, as should be the case in an activity park. Adventure park, family park, outdoor and fitness, dog park, traffic park, swimming pool came to the fore. Quite a few answers also mentioned ice sports.

A surprising proposal was the lookout tower.

- Great idea. Perhaps there could be a lighter version of the lookout tower that can be descended from, for example, with a cable. It wouldn't need to go very high, Luhtanen reflects

According to Luhtanen, many of the answers were ambitious. Things had been carefully considered and clearly invested in them.

- From many of the answers, it emerged that the area would be desirable for a cooler destination, which gives rise to the thought "Wow, what a place!" In the plans, it should be taken into account that the object will not become just a basic playground. "We dare to be the best wellness and sports park in Finland.", he quotes one response.

The survey aimed at the residents is part of the material that the students will have access to when the area's design competition starts at the beginning of September.

The competition does not bind the city to invest in the site during the planning phase.

Please find all suggestions from the townspeople.
