In Vuoksenniska and Kosk, among other things, the visibility of pedestrian crossings will be improved. Bike path to Havurinte.

The city of Imatra has drawn up traffic safety plans, the purpose of which is to improve school children's traffic safety. Based on the plans, the first changes will be made around the Koski and Vuoksenniska school centers this summer.

Next August, the Vuoksenniska School Center, which will begin its full operation, gathers children from a wider area than before. There are thus more children in traffic in the vicinity of the school than usual.

─ The traffic safety plan outlines urgent changes that will be made this summer. In the future, the focus will be on the work of the next urgency category, customer engineer Ville Pesu says.

For the first time in the summer, improvements aimed at crosswalks and light traffic safety will be made, among other things, on Vuoksenniskantie, near the old Kaukopäänkoulu, Leppärinte and Metsärinte. In these areas, for example, crosswalk paintings will be improved and crosswalk sign reflectors will be added.

─ The bigger contract is a completely new bike path to be built in Havurinte starting from Bion Vuoksi hill. The bike path extends all the way to the school via Havrinte, developer Henry Tapiola from Mitra.

In addition to these, planning and survey work will continue for the following sites: light traffic connection to the western edge of Metsärinte, narrowing of the Leppärinte carriageway, implementation of a pedestrian crossing over Leppärinte and the need for a new pedestrian crossing at the junction of Vuoksenniska and Peltolankatu

Touching crosswalk markings, reduction of driving speeds

The plan made last fall has been supplemented for Koske school with an examination of the routes of language students.

Like Vuoksenniska, improvements will be made, especially to the visibility of pedestrian crossings from Pistetaloi roundabout to the school. In addition, the speed limit on Vuoksentie will be reduced to 30 kilometers per hour between Virtakuja and the current shelter parking area. Läpiajo will also be banned on Kanavatu, and school escort traffic instructions will be clarified.

During the summer, the goal is to implement objects that are located in the immediate vicinity of the school center. The rest of the improvements will be made gradually.

All in all, the changes will cost Vuoksenniska and Koski around 30 euros. This amount does not include Havrinne's new light traffic route.
