The Rönkäntie junction will be renovated for more than four months

The big road repair will start at the end of July at the intersection of Karjalantie and Rönkäntie.

─ In this contract, a total of two new underpasses will be built under Rönkäntie and Karjalantie, the crossing area will be widened, traffic lights will be removed and the leveling of Karjalantie will be repaired, the developer Henry Tapiola Mitrasta states.

The need for change stems from the growth of heavy equipment. Stora Enso is driving bigger trucks more often than before. The Rönkäntie junction has become too tight for these giant trucks.

─ At the same time, we now have an opportunity to improve traffic safety, as more schoolchildren travel from Kaukopää in the direction of Vuoksenniska than before, customer engineer Ville Pesu says, referring to the fact that the Kaukopää school stopped operating last spring and the school children will go to the Vuoksenniska school center in the future.

The light traffic tunnels under both Rönkäntie and Karjalantie will be connected.

The entire road contract is currently being calculated, so the bids will be opened in early July. The purpose is to start work at the end of July. It should be ready at the end of November.

Detour through Vihnekatu

The road work will affect traffic in the vicinity of the renovation area. A closure is coming to Karjalantie between Rönkäntie and Vihnegatu for August. The detour runs through Vihnekatu.

On the other hand, from the beginning of September to the end of October, the road is closed on Rönkäntie between Viehnekatu and Karjalantie, the detour also goes through Vihnekatu.

Parents of schoolchildren are encouraged to talk with their children about a safe school road during the road repair. Detours for light traffic will be arranged in the renovation area.
