Welcome to hear and discuss the regional impact of museums

The "Museums as promoters of regional vitality" seminar will be held on Thursday, August 24.8. in Culture house Virta.

The city of Imatra and the Finnish Desert Museum Foundation organize in cooperation Museums as promoters of regional vitality seminar on Thursday 24.8.2023 at 10 a.m.-17 p.m. in Culture House Virta in Imatra.

The free seminar is part of the Reflections - museums as development platforms for nature-based business project and the preparation of the planned National Nature and Nature Culture Museum for Imatra.

The main presentations of the seminar deal with the regional influence of museums through international examples.

Doctor Danielle O'Donovan (University College Cork) examines museums as drivers of regional, slow and sustainable tourism through Irish examples (Museums as Drivers of Place-based, Slow and Sustainable Tourism: Case Studies of Cork City and the Irish Sea Ports). Presentation language English.
Professor Robert Winter's (University of St. Gallen) the topic is digital platforms and business models in the museum context (Platform-based Business Ecosystems as a Facilitator of Business Innovation – with Special Emphasis on Strategy, Design and Governance in the Museum Context). Presentation language English.
Professor Jussi Ängeslevä (Universität der Künste Berlin) approaches the topics of the future Wilderness and Nature Culture Museum in his lecture Presence, interaction and story – in and about nature.

In addition, local examples of cooperation plans between museums and entrepreneurs will be heard.

- During the day, there is also the opportunity to get to know the exhibitions of the Imatra Art Museum and the City Museum, project manager Aleksi Laaksonen says.
