In addition to the financial and health benefits of sustainable mobility, recent and current crises have increased the pressure to break away from the fossil fuel economy.

The goal of promoting sustainable mobility is to increase the share of modes of transportation that are favorable for the environment and society. With Imatra, it can be done. While living here, I have felt that we have good conditions for moving sustainably in many ways.

For several years, the city has focused investments on public transport and a safer and more comfortable environment for movement. City bikes have been serving municipal residents and tourists for many summers. Our acclaimed location along the Karelia railway makes it possible to travel sustainably even for longer distances. Have you noticed that VR's last train from Helsinki to Imatra has been delayed this autumn to better serve our needs?

I'm lucky when I get to cycle along Vuoksi on my way to work. On the crosswalk of the newly renovated old railway bridge, cars invariably slow down well in advance. The biogas and electricity distribution networks support more sustainable drives, and carpooling is a weekly hobby - the back seat has the best after-games!

A sustainable transport system is a whole, with a lot of work to do. Along with an attractive environment and infrastructure, the attitude atmosphere is of great importance.

Everyone can contribute to that - the example set by the children and young people on the Imatra who thank the driver for the ride on the bus.
