Background of the project
The location of major tourism investments in the immediate vicinity of Vuoksi in the Rauha-Tiuru area of Lappeenranta and the Ukonnimi area of Imatra has created a need for the development of tourism in the Vuoksi area. In the Vuoksi region, it was found out how the natural and cultural environment can be used in tourism and how resources can be produced in a sustainable way that takes into account natural and cultural values into tourist destinations and business activities of tourism entrepreneurs. At the same time, the importance of Vuoksi as a recreational destination for the people of Imatra was taken into account and the recreational use of Vuoksi was developed from this point of view as well. The goal of the project was to improve the conditions for nature and cultural tourism in Vuoksi and the recreational use of Vuoksi and the development of natural and cultural environments according to the principles of sustainable development. The goal was to guide tourism in a planned manner, to highlight natural and cultural attractions and to create new product opportunities for tourism entrepreneurs and operators.
The results of the Vuoksi master plan project
In the project, the general plan for nature and cultural tourism related to Vuoksi and the general plan for recreational use of Vuoksi, which focuses on the development of fishing, were completed. During the project, Vuoksi's valuable natural sites were updated and Vuoksi's birdlife was investigated. The historical sites of Vuoksi's shores and the rock carvings of Kruununpuisto were inventoried and the possibility of creating an urban stream at the site of Kruununpuisto's former log bed was investigated. In the project, a technical plan was completed to improve Mellonlahti's water quality, and during the project, small-scale fishing platforms were also built at Mutterinranta.
Funders of the project
The Vuoksi master plan project was financed by the European Union and the Southeastern Finland Business, Transport and Environment Center and the city of Imatra. The total budget of the project was 118 euros, of which the amount of public support was 000 euros. The project was managed and implemented by the city of Imatra. The project was implemented between May 82, 600 and April 1.5.2010, 30.4.2011.
Reports and reports related to the Vuoksi master plan project
In the project, the situation of Vuoksi and its coastal areas was investigated and updated from different perspectives: based on investigations and reports, new information was obtained about what is happening in the nature of Vuoksi's shores, what historical sites are in the area and what, for example, the gravel pits under the surface of Vuoksi, potential salmon spawning grounds, look like.
Vuoksi breeding bird survey 2010
Imatran Vuoksi's breeding birds were surveyed in June 2010. The survey was part of the Vuoksi master plan project and at the same time updated the 2000 nature conservation report for the sites along the Vuoksi river.
Imatra nature assessment update 2010, Vuoksi sites
In the update of Imatra's nature survey, the preservation of the valuable natural values found in 2000 of the valuable natural sites along the Vuoksi river, the possible new natural values of the sites, the measures that can be used to maintain the natural values of the sites and which measures endanger the preservation of the natural values, as well as which sites can be directed to tourism without endangering the natural values, have been evaluated in the update of Imatra's nature survey.
Inventory of historical sites along Vuoksi's shores
The inventory of the historical remains of Vuoksi's shores was completed at the turn of the year 2010. The research revealed 16 fixed ancient remains, 3 possible ancient remains and 6 other historical sites. In the past, there was only one known archaeological site, the Kruununpuisto rock carving area. 7 old village sites were located, 6 industrial sites and XNUMX other sites related to settlement and access routes. A systematic inventory of historical relics from Imatra has not been done before.
In the mapping and documentation of Kruununpuisto's rock cuttings and historical structures, rock cuttings were found at 126 sites - some sites have more than one cuttings. The oldest beatings may be from the 1700th century, but they are probably dated to the 1800th-1900th centuries. The fellings were documented to scale and their location was localized on the map. It is possible that part of the rock carvings have disappeared, especially with the collapse of the rapids on the east bank. The paths connect pavilions built in the 1800th and 1900th centuries. The paths have been repaired and rebuilt over the years, the structures from the 1700th century have probably already disappeared.
Fieldwork for historical inventories of Vuoksi's shores was carried out on September 27.9-October 8.10.2010, XNUMX. The work was carried out by the Swedish Museum Agency researcher Ulrika Könkä.
Structures of Vuoksi's recreational use
In the Vuoksi master plan project, the structures for recreational use in Vuoksi were developed through the design of concept images of the structures. Some of the structures are located in a nationally valuable built cultural heritage area and in or close to valuable natural sites, so the structures, structural materials and structural solutions must fit the requirements set by these environments, such as environmental friendliness and the aesthetic fit of the structures into the cultural landscape along the Vuoksi River. In addition, the structures must fit into the urban environment and urban landscape. In some structures, the possibility for wheelchair users must also be taken into account. Structures, materials and structural solutions must be of high quality and durable. The long-term goal is to create structures for recreational use that are uniform in style and suitable for the landscape in Vuok.
Mapping of salmon spawning areas in Vuoksi
In the Vuoks master plan project, gravel-dominated areas suitable for salmon spawning were mapped in the water area between the Tainionkoski and Imatrankoski power plants and in Mellonlahti. Nine of the fourteen sites visited were well or excellently suitable as salmon spawning grounds. A significant result of the survey can be considered the observation that the so-called Mellonlahti shoal is the natural breeding area for trout. The current fluctuations in the water level in Vuoksi are damaging the spawning, and the area must think about quick measures to protect the natural trout spawning in Vuoksi.
General plan of the Imatrankoski urban stream and fish road
Vuoksi's original trout population lives in Vuoksi, and we want to protect its preservation. In the project, a city stream-type solution was planned at the master plan level to improve the living conditions of the trout stock. The planning took into account the protection values of the area and its uniqueness as the only national landscape of South Karelia.
Nature destinations suitable for tourism and recreation
The report deals with the nature sites along the Vuoksi River from the perspectives of the development and use of nature tourism and accessible tourism. Along the Vuoksi river, there are suitable places to visit for tourist use, either as is or renovated, but tourist use is not recommended for some of the natural sites. Destinations in tourist use must be well cared for and maintained.
Carpet docks and car washes
The report examines Vuoksi's carpet piers and their condition, as well as car washes on Vuoksi's beaches.
Use and management plan of the Vuoks fishery
The operation and management plan for Vuoksi's fisheries outlines the development of fishing infrastructure and content in Vuoksi. The management of fish stocks, the organization of fishing and the marketing of fishing are important in the development of fishing.
General plan for nature and cultural tourism in the Vuoksi area
The general plan for nature and cultural tourism brings out the resources of nature and cultural tourism and the situation and backgrounds of nature and cultural tourism in the Vuoksi area on the Finnish side. The plan outlines development directions and priorities in order to raise the profile of sustainable nature and cultural tourism in Vuosaari.
Action program for Vuoksi's touristic recreational use
The action program for Vuoksi's touristic recreational use highlights the needs of Vuoksi's recreational use and the elements of Vuoksi's recreational use, and outlines activities for the development of recreational use from a tourism point of view.
Mutterinranta fishing platform
In the project, the fishing platform desired by the fishermen was built at the traditional place where the muikku is launched in Mutterinranta. Stairs make it easier to get to the water's edge and solidly built walking platforms make fishing easier.
