National cycling week is celebrated on May 6.5. – 15.5.2022 May XNUMX.

For the start of the cycling week in front of the Imatra sports hall on Saturday 7.5. from 12 to 15 p.m. you can try different bikes free of charge.

- There are 14 bikes to try, e-bikes suitable for off-road for women and men and mountain bikes for children, says the physical education instructor Satu Jaatinen From the Let's move together project.

Kaakau's city bikes are also there. A ride of less than an hour on Imatra's city bikes is free on May 6-7.5.2022, XNUMX.

Children in the yard of the sports hall are also entertained by a fox known from sports family events.

A prize encouraging cycling will be drawn among those who participated in the cycling event.

During the cycling week, children and families are encouraged to cycle

The city of Imatra encourages parents and children to cycle together.

- During cycling week, a cycling guinea pig has hidden in the early childhood education units. Go for a bike ride either to your own early childhood education unit or a little further and look for a guinea pig poster there. The guinea pig inspires you to play together in the kindergarten yard, and you can listen to the guinea pig's instructions behind the qr code. And it doesn't matter if the phone is left at home and the qr code cannot be read. Verbal instructions can also be found on the guinea pig, says the physical education instructor Suvi Seppänen from the city of Imatra.

All Imatra kindergartens, pre-school units and group family day care in Imatrankoski and Sienimäki participate in the cycling week.

- The cycling week includes theme days and the family cycling day is on Sunday 8.5 May. Would it be a good time to go cycling with the whole family and look for a guinea pig in the kindergarten yard and play together, Seppänen suggests.

During cycling week, the cities of Imatra and Lappeenranta announce a cycling-themed photo contest.

Imatra's goal is to increase cycling

During the annual national cycling week, people are encouraged to cycle. This year's theme is "Everyone has the right to safe cycling".

Increasing cycling is a significant part of promoting sustainable movement in Imatra as well.

- In recent years, there has been an investment in cycling in Imatra, for example by building bike paths and offering shared bikes for use by townspeople and tourists. The goal is for the share of cycling to increase, explains the traffic engineer Aino Vuopio from the city of Imatra.
