The development of the square, a commuter train stop and enhancing the streetscape are the main topics.

A pattern walk was organized in Vuoksenniska on Thursday, June 10.6. The purpose of the walk was to offer the residents the opportunity to share their wishes regarding the area with the planners of the city of Imatra and the office holders responsible for the urban image on the spot. The nature of the discussion was ideational.

A group of about ten people walked calmly talking along Vuoksenniskantie and Peltolankatu.

The residents told the planners that the focus of business life is now clearly on the lower slope of Vuoksenniskan, i.e. on Peltolankatu, Torikakutu and the northern end of Vuoksenniskantie. Investments would be needed in the part towards Näreharju.

Tori needs more space

On the residents' ideal list were, for example, two-story new properties, building senior apartments in Vuoksenniska and getting a commuter train connection.

If the local train connection ever succeeds, Vuoksenniska should have a stop. The place of the stop was also discussed. Others think it should belong in the square. FCG's project architect who listened to the residents' wishes Julia Virkkala asked if it could also be located along Peltolankatu, near the Pajurinte exit.

- Of course, you could also think of a city park or a new building for the same place.

One clear wish of the residents is the development of the market. Imatra's busiest market would need more space and a small performance stage based on the plan walk.

As a solution to the space problem, it was proposed that the parking lots next to the market on Peltolankatu be moved to where the recycling boxes used to be. The space in the parking lots could thus be used for market use.

More guidance for enhancing the street image

Smaller wishes were also expressed to brighten up the street scene. The residents' wish list includes, among other things, improving the properties in Vuoksenniskantie. The city was expected to be active and provide guidance in this matter. For example, the faded and frayed awnings of properties no longer please the eyes of the residents.

The hope is also to fix the ball lights in front of Mininman. Nice lights mainly need replacing the bulbs.

All the residents who were on the pattern walk felt comfortable in Vuoksenniska. The group included a summary of their area:

- Niska is like a city within a city.
