The cancellation of the event is due to the corona epidemic.

The traditional Independence Day celebration of the city of Imatra will not be held this year due to the corona epidemic. The party has been organized in Kulttuuritalo Virra in previous years.

This is unfortunate, but based on Eksote's recommendation, we are now acting this way, communications director Liisa Hupli-Oinonen says.

However, the wreaths for the heroes' graves in Imatrankoski, Tainionkoski and Vuoksenniska will be laid as before. The city, parish, reservist organizations and scouts take care of laying the wreath. The events will be held without a wider audience, but the counting event will be videoed on the city's website for viewing during the afternoon of December 6.12.

Due to the corona epidemic, the rapids show cannot be held either.

Hopefully the people of Imatra can celebrate December 6th in other ways, for example by going outside in our own national landscape, i.e. by the rapids and along Vuoksi or by taking candles to the cemetery, says Hupli-Oinonen.

The city reminds that the organizers of various events have a responsibility to ensure that the THL's corona instructions on, for example, the use of masks, the number of participants, safety intervals and hand disinfection are followed even in the weeks leading up to Christmas.

The parish organizes a traditional service for Independence Day on Sunday, December 6.12. in Tainionkoski church. The church has taken into account THL's instructions.
