A total of eight kilometers of sewers will be renovated. The four-year renovation project will last until 2023.

Water management manager for Imatra water Kari Pietarinen says that the concrete sewer built in the mid-1960s is in poor condition.

- There are problems especially at wells. During heavy rains, water from the fields flows into the drain as surface runoff.

This has also caused three wastewater overflows in the past year at the Päivärinteenkatu pumping station, which is the last pumping station before the Meltola wastewater pumping station.

The renovation that started this year has been pending for a long time.

- In 2012, a capacity review of the main sewer was carried out and a comprehensive construction plan was made for the western main sewer in 2019.

There is no need to increase the capacity of the sewer, so the renovation can be done by running a new pipe into the old sewer.

In the western part of Imatra, in the area stretching from Kuutostie to Anunkuja, the drainage system will be completed during December.

250 euros have been set aside for the project this year and 000 euros for next year. The sewer will be built by Mitra Imatra Rakennuttaja Oy.
