The facilities of the kindergartens caused concern

Every couple of years, the city of Imatra asks the parents of children in early childhood education and preschool about their satisfaction with their activities. The previous survey was conducted in the spring of 2017. In this spring's survey, answers were received from a total of 306 parents.

The majority of the respondents' children (92%) were in daycare centers in groups over three years old, the private Steiner daycare center Koskitonttu was also included in the survey. 92 percent of the guardians thought the activity was either excellent or good.

The staff received positive feedback and the atmosphere and versatile activities of the daycare centers were also praised in free answers.

When asked about the children's friends in the kindergarten, the families saw that the children have friends in the kindergarten (96%) and that the early childhood education staff, for their part, help and support the children in creating these friendships.

There were concerns about the indoor and outdoor spaces of the daycare centers and the adequacy of the staff. In addition, more information was hoped for.

In the future, we will pay more and more attention to making the child's participation visible, i.e. the guardians clearly do not know how much the children are able to influence their own affairs during the day, i.e. eating, resting and outdoor activities, says the head of early childhood education services Minna Leinonen

- Parents also clearly do not know how the child participates in making their own early childhood education plan, because more than 30 percent of parents could not say whether their child participated in making their own plan, Leinonen continues. We will take this issue as our next development target.

Another place for development in the future, based on the answers received, is to pay attention to the child's search for an early childhood education place. Now, some parents felt that they did not receive sufficient guidance and counseling when applying for a place.

Overall, the results of the survey showed that the children's parents are satisfied with early childhood education and preschool education.
