The construction of the senior housing starts in October in Vuoksenniska

Imatra's YH-Rakennuttaja is building a 42-apartment senior building in Vuoksenniska.

The Immala Loiste senior housing, owned by Imatra Vuokra-Asunnot Oy, will rise on the former Tokmanni site.

 - This project has been pending for years. We finally get to fill the hole in the plot and build new, modern accessible apartments, says Lassi Nurmi, CEO of YH-Rakennuttaja Oy.

The decision to build was sealed on Monday, when the state housing fund ARA gave the green light to the grant application. ARA supports the construction costs of 6,2 million euros with a good 10 percent.

- The readiness to set off is there immediately. The first preparations can start on the plot as early as next week. In any case, the construction site will be built during October, says Ari Lattu, who is responsible for YH's construction.

The apartments coming to Loitsee in Immala are studios and small two-bedroom apartments, 35,5-42,5 square meters in size. YH acted as the landlord for all of them, but the tenants for half of the apartments are chosen by the South Karelia Social and Health District (Eksote), which is a partner in the project.

- The tenant selection process has already started and YH has received a lot of preliminary rental apartment inquiries, but there are still vacant apartments available. Such barrier-free senior apartments are clearly needed, Nurmi says.

Immala Loiste will be completed in December 2018.

In time, the Vuoksenniska library will also move into the property, where 239 square meters of space will be built. The local library also operates in the new premises on the principle of a self-service library.

In addition, spaces for care services will be available to Eksote in the building. Eksoten's instructor is there to activate the residents five days a week for eight hours at a time. In addition to this, the house will have a support center for home care workers at the northern end of Eksoten's Imatra area.
