The purpose of the forest is to provide practical lessons for forest cultivation and to remind of the importance of forests in climate work. The planting is carried out in cooperation with Stora Enso.

The students of the flexible basic education (jopo) of Imatra schools will plant on Wednesday 18.5. forest to Linnankoski. The forest planting is done in cooperation with Stora Enso.

The trees planted by the students form a small climate forest. The purpose of the forest is to teach practical issues related to planting and caring for the forest, and to remind of the important role of forests in curbing global warming.

— This is a project spanning years. Students can follow the growth of the forest and learn to take care of it. At the same time, they learn in a practical way how climate change can be affected by small actions themselves, head of education and youth Minna Rovio says.

Creating a climate forest is part of Imatra Junior University Universoman activity.

450 spruce and birch saplings

The trees will be planted in an area of approximately 0,2 hectares owned by the city near the intersection of Pietarintie and Pumppukuja.

—We have reserved 270 spruce seedlings and 180 iron birch seedlings for planting, marketing manager Juha Hanni Stora Ensolta says.

The tree species have been chosen so that they support the diversity of the area's trees.

The students get to know the planting of the forest in advance by watching a short instructional video. In addition, they will receive an introduction to planting and caring for the forest on site

—This is important and practical work. We want to bring information to young people in as concrete a way as possible and at the same time remind them that the forest industry also needs workers in the future, says Hanni.

The idea of climate forest was originally invented by the Imatranajo organization.
