Matias Hilden unanimously for the city management

The city council of Imatra unanimously elected Matias Hilden as the city manager today, Monday, April 25.4.

He will initially act as as city manager until the termination of the previous manager's employment relationship becomes law.

The position took effect immediately. 

─  The glow that many people think belongs to this highest office in the city, I myself have already faded in the past weeks, Hilden said in his acceptance speech, referring to the events of the past few weeks.

─ There are a lot of us players in this big band of the city of Imatra. A good organization plays the same way as a good jazz orchestra: not everyone plays the same way, some may play more cleanly than others, some may play faster than others. Someone plays the note in front, someone next to it, someone behind. But everyone's playing together still has to sound great, Hilden continued.

He also reminded that a successful and energetic Imatra is not built only from the town hall.

─  Not from a corner room, a meeting room or even from here in the council chamber. It is built in meetings with residents and future immigrants, by serving the entrepreneur in his case, by helping residents to take care of their own hometown, by intervening in bullying at school or the distress of a family suffering from it.

The new city captain also had a message for his constituents:

─ Past regional development, urbanization and most recently the coronavirus and the war in Ukraine have dealt new cards to municipalities. Our own cards did not improve in the last deal. Imatra's card hand is also not so strong that we could throw picture cards back into the deck: I hope you decision makers remember that too. We need healthy opportunism, the courage to be humble, but also the recognition of realities.

The council set a trial period of six months for the new mayor.
