Linnankoski's new level crossing and underpass behind the old garden

After resident feedback and an offer to sell the old garden, a better place was found for the underrun. Participate and come up with a name for the new street.

The Linnankoski level crossing will be removed from public traffic use in the future. The new railway connection requires an underpass, but it cannot fit in the location of the Linnankoski level crossing due to the proximity of Vuoksi.

Originally, an extension of Puutarhankatu was planned as a new level crossing and underpass. The residents of the area did not like the alternative. A new solution was offered by the owner of the old garden plot Petri Wikström. He offered to sell his garden plot so that the road connection to the future underpass can be arranged.

─ The plot is currently unnecessary for us, Wikström states.

Wikström and the city started negotiations on the land sale.

─ The negotiations progressed well and we are really happy that a better solution was found for the residents. It's great that we don't have to build a new road connection between the existing residential properties, city engineer Päivi Ala-Vannesluoma says.

The city will buy the approximately 9800 square meter Ahopello garden area for 94 euros.

The state pays for the construction

There is no information yet on the construction schedule of the new underpass and road connection. It can wait even longer, as construction awaits a decision on the double track.

The plans were still in a hurry, because the planned track-related costs are now covered by the state. If the plans had not yet been made, the costs of the underpass and the road connection would have fallen to the city's responsibility when the double track was realized.

Drafts of site plan changes for the area will be made available for viewing in November. The new track plan of the Finnish Railways Agency from the national border to Sienimäki requires changes to the site plan and the environment more broadly. In addition to the Linnankoski level crossing, the biggest changes also concern the Imatrankoski station and the triangular track between Kartanonkatu and Kuutosti.

Vthese change proposals are due to be decided by the altusto at the beginning of 2022.

The plot of the old garden will not remain completely unchanged. The demolition of the old buildings on the site will probably start already next year.

Name for the new street connection

A new connection will eventually be built through the old garden plot from Vuoksentie to Sotkulammentie via an underpass.

That road connection is still on the planners' table without a name. The city of Imatra is organizing a name survey. What name would suit the area?

State your own suggestion by answering the survey.

The response period ends on 19.12.2021 December XNUMX

The inventor of the new name receives a small product gift from the city.
