The first draft of the work will be completed in the near future.

The city of Imatra has commissioned a visual artist to sketch the work of art From William Dennisuk Mansikkala school center.

Dennisuk is Environmental art teacher at Saimaa University of Applied Sciences, who has created numerous works for various public spaces both in Finland and abroad. He has studied visual arts in Detroit, Chicago and Helsinki.

Dennisuk, who lives in Imatra, was born in the United States. He has lived in Finland since the 1980s.

The city got in touchä to a well-known artist, because we want Finland's largest woodworking school to have a work that lastsugh time and eventugh idea of wooden school and modern learning, millionöö- and steering groupän's chairman Anna Helminen says

Final order after draft

A large, modern wooden school is already a monument of its time. The work must be suitable for a large outdoor wall. What kind of challenge do the requirements create for environmental art?

Tämä creates an interesting challenge because it differs fromäfrom doing something or paintingä in the studio, where you can control the production of the artwork in a different way. Tämä requires coordination with different parties. Työso I play two roles.

First, the concept and visual aspects of the work must be developed. The local environment must also be considered more broadly. Vuoksi is very close. Here in Finland, we also have to take into account the fact that we are in the dark for half the year. Second, I have to act as a coordinator, project manager and quality controller. Sometimes this second role can be the most challenging, Dennisuk thinks.

The city will pay a fee of 2500 euros for the sketch ordered now. If the sketch meets the expectations of the milieu and steering group, the final work will be commissioned from the artist.

Tight schedule

The schedule for the work is tight, as the work should be completed on August 31.8.2020, 1.12.2020 or at the latest on December 31, XNUMX. The draft must be ready by March XNUMX.

The time window is challenging, but I still believe that the completion of the project is possible at the end of the summer. This depends a lot on the subcontractors' schedules.

It would be best if the work could be installed while the construction equipment is still in place. Finnish summer work schedules can be challenging, but I hope we can get everything done in the summer. The fact that I live in Imatra makes it easier to coordinate the project, Dennisuk says.

Previously, the city commissioned sketches for the Mansikkala school center from two other artists.

The sketch they did was interesting. It had a lot of semantic meanings. This time, however, we could not carry out the work on this particular target, says Helminen.

Imatra commissions percentage art for each of the three new school centers, the creators of which have some connection to the city. In Vuoksenniska, the artwork was realized by a visual artist Jarkko Liutu. An artist is coming to Koski's school Zindy Vähäkankaan work.
