The city of Imatra is developing a new type of guidance for Kruununpuisto, where the history of the area opens up to the visitor with the help of other virtual and augmented reality.

Kruununpuisto's new guidance is being developed by the development coordinator Minna Kähtävä-Marttinen piloting In the Virtual rapids project.

- Digital solutions can be used to expand the swimming experience. We want to tell about a significant destination even things that are not visible on the surface. In the customer surveys carried out in the project, the history of the rapids was felt to be important. For this reason, we will also highlight it at the upcoming virtual visit points around the rapids. People have visited the rapids for hundreds of years and we have material from those places, says Kähtävä-Marttinen.

With the new virtual guided tour in Kruununpuisto, there will be no new guide boards, but the guidance can be seen on mobile phones.

- In a few places in Kruununpuisto, a sign similar to a QR code will be added, through which the mobile phone can retrieve the historical content of the place, Kähtävä-Marttinen clarifies.

A new mobile guide is being developed for the city by Teatime Research Oy, which visited Kruununpuisto on site on Tuesday. The company's design director Tommi Teronen says that the project will create an online application that uses augmented reality and 360-degree images.

- In practice, the application can be activated with the help of a physical sign, which is viewed through the cell phone camera. This triggers a web application that displays the images we add through the cell phone's camera. Augmented reality brings such a certain wau element, explains Teronen.

The virtual adventure located in Kruununpuisto does not require downloading an application to the phone from the app store, but it can be viewed on a phone with an internet connection. However, the virtual and augmented reality of the guidance can only be seen by arriving on site at Kruununpuisto.

The new virtual waterfall experience will be introduced next summer. The old guide signs remain in the terrain. The virtual swimming experience is brought to complement it.

- At the virtual points, Kruununpuisto will be told by the park's original resident. The new guide will be presented to the public as part of a virtual waterfall experience, Kähtävä-Marttina hints at what's to come.
