The number of passengers on local buses in the city of Imatra increased by 15,4% in 2017 compared to the previous year. The costs of local transport for the city were a little over one million euros.

In 2017, the number of passengers in Imatra's local transport increased dramatically compared to the previous year.

The 15,4 percent increase in passenger numbers is the result of additional investments.

- The development of public transport has been successful based on the increase in passenger numbers. The route and schedule reform made in the summer of 2016 was necessary and based on this result, it was found to be functional, the city engineer is happy Päivi Pekkanen

Ticket prices were significantly reduced in July 2016; single tickets for adults from 60 cents to three euros and single tickets for children from 1,8 to 1,5 euros.

In 2017, the monthly ticket for young people became cheaper by seven euros, and in the summer we had two-euro summer tickets. In addition, in 2017 free days were organized during the Imatra Run, City Day and Election Day.

The most popular line in 2017 was line number 3 operating between Jakola and Huhtanen, which made 46 percent of the trips.

- The long-term development of public transport will continue. At the moment, the top priority is the renewal of lines 1 and 2, which will be added to the summer schedule. The Urban Development Board has also ruled that public transport should be looked at on a completely new basis according to the locations of the new school centers, Päivi Pekkanen says.
