Mansikkala school center operate Imatra's music-focused classes 3-9, whose history stretches back more than 50 years.
Studying in a music class differs from the usual in that, instead of 1-2 hours a week, music is studied 5 times a year. with modern and versatile tools. This allows for more ambitious goals in singing and playing. Such are, for example, polyphonic choral singing and various bands.
Music students get a lot of performance experience from school parties, bigger concerts and smaller gigs.
The music classes also collaborate a lot with local music and cultural actors. So-called academic subjects, such as mathematics, mother tongue, natural sciences, history and languages are studied in music-focused classes as much as in non-focused classes.
All second graders who are interested in the activity can apply for the music class, and no previous music hobby is required. The application is made using the form in Wilma.
Indications of musicality can be obtained from the Karma musicality test given to all second graders.
A musicality test is organized for applicants, the purpose of which is to measure their suitability for a music-focused class. The test measures, for example, sense of rhythm and melody.
The entrance exams are held in week 8, after which those selected still have the opportunity to make a decision about accepting a place.
Supplemental applications are arranged at discretion, if there is room in the class.
