In the area of the city of Imatra, the Saimaa beach has a special feature of the traditional wooden boathouses, which can be found on the beaches owned by the city and Tornator from the border of Lappeenranta, from Kurjenlahti to Liippilahti. There are a total of approximately 160 privately owned boathouses in the boathouse areas in question. Boat stalls on the beaches are part of the look of Imatra, and the city wants to cherish this decades-long tradition and preserve the boat stalls in good condition in the beach landscape in the areas reserved for them.
The building order guides the keeping and construction of boathouses. Below is an excerpt from § 27 of the building regulations:
The boathouse areas that will be permanently preserved on the Saimaan shore for the time being are in Lempuka, Hosseinlahti, Malonsalmi, Leppälahti and Pata-lahti. The areas are marked as boating areas in the legal general formula. A new boathouse may only be built in place of the old one. Boathouses in these areas do not need a permit or notification. The boathouse must be the same size as before, covered with a dark roof, with a gable roof, and access openings must be equipped with closable doors. Wood must be used for the frame and wall cladding of the booth, and the color of the facades must follow the instructions approved by the building control authority, which are available from the building control and on the city's website. The building inspectorate carries out an annual inspection in the area, which determines the condition of the sheds.
The location of boat cabins can currently be found in the map system.
If the boat stall owner sells or hands over his boat stall to a third party, the boat stall owner must approve the change of owner of the boat stall with the city, so that a new lease agreement can be concluded with the new boat stall owner. The boat booth can also be handed over to the city free of charge.
The annual rent for the boathouse spaces is determined based on the tax approved by the city each year.
