The city of Imatra donates eleven power stations to its partner city Nizhyn, which is suffering from the war. Power stations are used as power sources in bomb shelters.

- In previous winters of war, it has been seen that Russia has tried to paralyze Ukraine's energy system. With this small contribution, we are trying to help the residents of our partner city survive the current winter, says the mayor Matias Hilden.

Last year the people of Imatra got excited to knit socks and mittens for the people of Nizhyn.

- Gloves were no longer necessary this year. Instead, there would be a demand for sleeping pads and sleeping bags. The aid goods to be exported have been selected based on the wishes of the people of Nizhyn, says the participation coordinator who negotiated with the city of Nizhyn Heikki Laine.

The goods are sent to Nizhyn by a volunteer from Imatra who delivers aid to Ukraine Joni Salmen on the way in the third week of January. Salmi sees that there is a need for help.

- Even though it is said that the conflict has frozen, the need for aid has not decreased, but the situation in Ukraine is still acute. Even though the goods have been exported, they are also constantly worn out and destroyed. You must not give up, Salmi states.
