Imatra's option to reuse the town hall is ecological and economical. The location also favors the museum for Imatra. There are no similar national museums in the province.

On Friday, the city of Imatra submitted an application for a nature and nature culture museum.

─ We are fully involved in the race. We offer a sustainable, ecological alternative to a museum, Imatra's contact director Tea Laitimo says.

In its application, Imatran presents the town hall as a museum. This would be a carbon-neutral and significantly cheaper option than new construction. The strengths of the place are also its location on the Vuoksi beach, right next to the Kuutosti exits and the train station.

Imatra's advantages are also the proximity of the border station and its image as a tourist town thanks to the sports tourism investments of Imatrankoski, Valtionhotelli and Ukonniemi. Imatra has sea routes for a museum as well as history: the town has Finland's first nature reserve (Kruununpuisto). Both Finnish tourism and fishing tourism have also started from Imatra.

Provincial vitality meaning

The national museum that is now being applied for is the last nature-responsible museum that We are establishing in Finland. There are no responsible museums in South Karelia yet. Getting a museum for Imatra would be particularly important, because the traditional industrial city has suffered from restructuring. Tourism has become a significant vitality factor in the city, and supporting it would be in the interest of the entire southern Saimaa.

─ This is not just an issue for Imatra, but a matter of vitality for the entire province and Saimaa region. We are especially happy that we are being supported in this project by the municipalities of South Karelia as well as the regional association, the mayor of Imatra Kai Roslakka says.

The location of the museum is decided by the Finnish Forestry Museum, the Finnish Fishing Museum Association, the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry, the Ministry of Education and Culture and the Museum Agency.

Newly at the wilderness and nature culture museum will be a task that not only presents history, but also involves visitors. In addition, research activities have been planned in connection with it.

Attached is a short video ordered by the city of Imatra from Dominus Oy, which shows Imatra's location alternative, i.e. the town hall and its location on the shore of Vuoksi.
