Ukrainian music on May Day in Kulttuuritalo Virra
The concert features the Saimaan Svitanok choir, made up of Ukrainian children, and the Ukrainian-Finnish mixed choir Kalyna Imatra, who sing Ukrainian songs.
The choirs are accompanied by the Imatra chamber orchestra.
In addition to choirs, Dance studio Jami will perform at the concert.
Director of choirs Elena Kettunen has assembled the choirs during this spring from Ukrainians who fled the war to Imatra and a few music lovers from Imatra.
- Music is the best therapy and an excellent means of integration. It is important that we not only sing among ourselves, but that we can participate in society and support Ukraine from our part. Our first performance was on the anniversary of the war in Ukraine, then on International Women's Day. Now we managed a whole concert. It is extremely great that we can support Ukraine in this way and give Finns the opportunity to get to know wonderful Ukrainian music, says Kettunen.
Admission to the concert is free. The manual program costs ten euros. The profit from it goes to the benefit of Nizhyn, the cooperation city of Imatra. The manual is available for sale in advance, for example, at the city of Imatra's customer service.
