The asphalting program's budget for this year is one million euros

The program includes improvements to vehicular and light traffic routes around the city in the form of surfacing, groove patching and mixing milling

— A total of four kilometers of residential streets will be paved this year. In addition, parking lots are paved and well repairs and patching are carried out around the city, says the local supervisor Konsta Toikka from Mitra Imatra Rakennuttaja Oy.

The budget also includes the asphalting of the area renovation sites completed last year in Meltola, Vintteri and Virasoja.

— The streets in Meltola will be asphalted in May, Toikka continues.

A total of 3,5 kilometers of rutted and cast asphalt patching will be done during May-June. Asphalting of the parking lots is also carried out during the early summer.

Conditions for walking and cycling will be improved

This year, 1 meters of light traffic lanes will be asphalted in the following sections: 

• The channel parallel to Vuoksenniskantie between Sienimäki—Sulattimo 
• The road in the direction of Koulukatu between Eskonkatu—Vuoksenrannankatu  
• The road in the direction of Virasojantie between Rakennusmestarinkatu—Karjalantie  
• The road in the direction of Paajalankatu between Sumukuja and Koulukatu 

The coating includes, among other things, the foundation work necessary for the use of the selected material and the raising of the manhole covers. 

50 euros will initially be used for street markings

The final job listing for these sites will be detailed later in early summer and will be announced separately.
— The asphalt program also includes works related to street drainage, so that the street coatings can be preserved as long as possible, says the city's maintenance engineer Kaisa Pohjola.

The asphalting program is goal-oriented and there may be changes.
