Teaching groups with grounds for Koski and Vuoksenniska school centers and the town hall.

The city of Imatra is starting basic education for Ukrainian children who have moved to Finland.

The new teaching groups will officially start at the beginning of October in the Koski and Vuoksenniska school centers. One group of 12 students is coming to both school centers.

─ In addition, there will be teaching groups at the town hall for this semester. At the town hall, the teaching start time is still open, head of education and youth Minna Rovio says.

It is possible to initially set up four to six teaching groups for a total of about 60 children at City Hall.

If there is more need for preparatory education, the city is ready to start new groups as well. If necessary, teaching can be given at the town hall until the start of museum operations requires a move to another location. A school has operated in the property before, when Linnala's students needed shelter.

There is no exact information on the number of students

There are already preparatory education groups at the Koske school center for immigrants from different cultures. This group already includes some Ukrainian children who fled the war. Pupils have also already started in Vuoksenniska.

The preparatory teaching focuses on learning the Finnish language. In teaching, it is also possible to study other subjects. After about a year, the student moves to his own neighborhood school to a class according to his age level.

─ We have received information from the reception center that there are currently around 50 Ukrainian children living in Imatra. More Ukrainians are coming to the city, but we have no information on how many of them are of school age, coordinating preparatory education, says Johanna Ovaska, head principal of Koske School Center.

The recruitment of teachers and instructors begins

Each new group of preparatory education requires one teacher and one guidance counselor.

These days, the city is opening recruitment to hire professionals. The search takes place at Kuntarekry.fi
