The extension of Imatra's first snow slope is postponed by a week

The track will be extended on 8.11. starting week.

Ukonniemi's first snow slope was opened on October 15, with a length of 1,5 kilometers. The track was supposed to be extended to 2,8 kilometers on November 1, but as a result of consideration by the track administrators, the extension will be made in week 45.

- The solution is based on our track strategy, where the good condition of the tracks in any weather is the first priority, says Heikki Varis, technical manager of Mitra Imatra Rakennuttaja Oy, which maintains the track.

We also want to make sure there is enough snow. In the summer, approximately 20 cubic meters of snow must be reserved for the January ski championships granted to Imatra.

- This amount is now out of the first snow piste planned in the piste strategy in the spring. We didn't want to take any risks with the WC, even though we might get frost before January, Varis states.

Postponing the continuation of the trail came at a good time in that there is only one camp group in Imatra in the first week of November. The backwater phase in the camps is due to the transfer of the Kontiolahti World Cup competition to spring. With that, the camp plans of the national teams preparing for the competition changed.

- In week 45, the camp activity picks up again and there is more demand for a longer course. Seven camp groups will then arrive on the slopes, says Jaakko Jäppinen, sales manager of Imatra Base Camp Oy.
