There has been a lively discussion on the topic in the Russian media.

Passenger train connections to Imatra are now also interesting to Russians in a new way.

RZD (Russian Railways), the Russian Ministry of Transport and logistics experts are investigating the possibility of starting regular train connections from St. Petersburg to Imatra. The train would pass through Vyborg and Svetogorsk.

Imatra gives this all its support. This is also a project of the South Karelia Association, in which we are involved. We really hope this comes true, Liaison Director Tea Laitimo says.

The biggest challenges in the implementation of the plan are the execution of border checks and the renovation of the Svetogorsk railway infrastructure and station.

Preliminary calculations estimate one million people as passengers.

The issue has been actively discussed in the Russian media in recent days. The first issue was brought to light by the Russian TV channel 78. Read the article about the topic in Russian from here.
