You can get a repair grant for the apartments of elderly and disabled people

The housing finance and development center ARA has various forms of assistance for housing for the elderly and the disabled. The search is continuous.

More and more people have the opportunity to receive ARA grants, estimates the repair construction engineer of the city of Imatra Pertti Purovaara.

- The income limits for grants have changed. Now the search is also continuous, and not only in the spring, as it was a few years ago. One significant change in ARA's subsidy rules is that now the subsidy is not recovered, even if the resident dies soon after the renovation. This reduces the risk of those commissioning the renovation, says Purovaara.

According to Purovaara, the renovation that enables living at home is good for both the value of the apartment and the city's economy.

- Detached houses are also often granted subsidies for building roofs or laundry facilities, for example. At the same time, we hope that people can stay at home for as long as possible. It, in turn, reduces healthcare costs.

The aid jungle may seem difficult, but help is available.

- The Finnish Federation of Senior Citizens offers free help in Lappeenranta to make repair allowance applications, advises Pertti Purovaara.
