The "Participate and affect" program promotes the possibilities of urban residents to influence
The "Participate and influence" program has been prepared by the city of Imatra Participate and influence working group.
Office-holding member of the working group, development and employment coordinator Circus Sarlomo sees many grounds for investing in participation.
- Financing of services, tax revenue, comes from residents and businesses. Residents and companies are metaphorically customer owners, so it is natural to include them in the development of services as well.
According to Sarlomo, the city also has something to learn from its owners.
- The information received from residents and companies is necessary for the work of trustees for decision-making and for civil servants in the preparation of matters. The development of the participate and influence activity is part of the development of preparation and decision-making.
In the "Participate and influence" program, it is recorded in connection with each sub-area how the implementation of the participation is evaluated. The "Participate and influence" working group aims to guide the development of participation activities based on the evaluation.
The program is divided into two sections; to the program part and the program appendix.
- The program part tells what the city is particularly investing in this council term. The appendix, which is an extension of the program, is a guide to how Imatra takes care of the implementation of inclusion as a continuous activity, says the secretary of the "Participate and influence" working group, communications expert Heikki Laine

In the city of Imatra, participation is defined in three types.
In representative participation the city council and government in the forefront use their power borrowed from the citizens to agree on common issues. Boards have been reduced in recent years, but on the other hand, for example, a children's parliament has been established and the activities of the youth council have been strengthened.
Direct involvement has enjoyed its heyday in recent years, when electronic services have developed. Initiatives, complaints and various expressions of opinion are easier to leave than before. Even in the public sector, it is increasingly thought that we ask the local people, because that is where we can get valuable information.
Information participation means making information public and providing relevant information in a timely manner. Information should be available to everyone, even those who don't have the time or opportunity to follow the city's affairs closely.
