Agreement with Fortum for rapids displays

In 2019, during the summer season, shows five days a week, in addition to special shows on holidays and mass events.

The city of Imatra and Fortum have tentatively reached an agreement on the number of rapids displays starting next year.

In the future, rapids shows will be shown five times a week from Midsummer until mid-August, from Wednesday to Sunday.

In addition to this, screenings are performed on New Year's Day, May Day, summer opening, Imatra Day and in connection with larger mass events.

- What is new in the agreement is that if necessary, there are also screenings outside the actual summer tourist season, responsible for the rapids shows on behalf of the city Pentti Miikki From Imatra Base Camp says.

Before the dam renovation, shows were performed every day of the week from Midsummer to August, but additional shows were negotiated on a case-by-case basis, jand these shows were rare.

The discussion about rapid displays arose earlier in the spring, when Fortum announced that in order to secure the technical operation of the floodgates, it is appropriate to negotiate on reducing the number of displays. The plan made now was born in a good spirit of togetherness.

Opinions on rapids shows have been asked widely from tourism and service industry companies operating in the city.

A budget of 79 euros has previously been set aside for rapids shows. This sum will have to be divided in the future bigger than beforei part an audience of extortioniststo the requirements of safety regulations additionalcosts. The police have announced that in the future traffic on the Koski bridge must be blocked for the duration of the shows.

- We would also have to invest something in the lighting and sound technology, because the old technology had to be dismantled under the dam renovation. This is a matter for next fall's budget negotiations, Miikki states.

The exact 2019 rapids show calendar will be published in the fall.
