By learning environments is meant spaces and places and communities and operating practices, where studying and learning take place. The learning environment also includes tools, services and materials, which are used in studying. Learning environments will to support individual and community growth, learning and interaction. Well-functioning learning environments promote interaction, participation and community building of knowledge. They also enable active cooperation with communities or experts outside the school.

The goal of developing learning environments is that learning environments form pedagogically diverse and flexible whole. It is taken into account in the development special needs of different subjects. Learning environments must offer opportunities to creative solutions and to examining and researching things from different perspectives. In addition, in the development and selection of learning environments, it is taken into account that students learn new knowledge and skills outside of school as well.

In the development, planning, implementation and use of space solutions for basic education, it is taken into account ergonomics, ecology, aesthetics, accessibility and acoustic conditions as well as room lighting, indoor air quality, comfort, order and cleanliness. With the school's spatial solutions with furniture, equipment and tools, it is possible to support the pedagogical development of teaching and the active participation of students. The aim is to make facilities, equipment and materials as well as library services available to students so that they also provide the opportunity for independent study. In addition to the school's indoor and outdoor spaces, nature and the built environment are utilized in the teaching of various subjects. Libraries, sports, art and nature centers, museums and many other cooperation entities offer diverse learning environments.

Information and communication technology is an integral part of versatile learning environments. With it students' participation and community working skills are strengthened, and students' personal learning paths are supported. In the development of learning environments, diverse media culture is taken into account. New information and communication technology solutions are introduced to promote and support learning. Students' own IT devices can be used to support learning in ways agreed upon with the guardians. At the same time, it is ensured that all students have the opportunity to use information and communication technology.

Experiences and experiences of success in different environments and learning situations inspire students to develop their own skills. Students participate in the development of learning environments. In the design of learning environments individual needs of students are taken into account. In this way, the need for support for learning and going to school can be prevented. Learning environments tailored according to the need for support can be part of the student's planned support.

The development of learning environments is taken into account comprehensive well-being of the school community and each student. Environments must be safe and healthy and promote healthy growth and development according to the students' age and conditions. Students are guided responsible and safe operation in all learning environments. Good work peace and a friendly and unhurried atmosphere support learning.
