First, the places of danger are mapped, then they are repaired.

The city of Imatra is mapping the school traffic danger spots in Vuoksenniska. The traffic safety agency Trafi has granted the city a grant of 8260 euros for this purpose. 13 sites in Finland received funding from Trafi, one of which is Imatra.

With the help of the support, the measures that can be taken to make the road to school safer are determined. At the same time, we look at how barrier-free movement can be guaranteed for others as well.

- We will carry out a comprehensive mapping of light traffic danger points near the school, where the safety of pedestrian crossings will be emphasized. In the program of measures based on the survey, a position is taken on, for example, the timing of traffic lights and the installation of flashing lights for motorists, Acting city engineer Päivi Pekkanen says.

The possibility of speed bumps near the school is also being investigated, as well as whether there are high curbs at intersections with light traffic. It will also be examined whether the light traffic routes are uniform up to the school.

-The corrections presented in the action program will be implemented in 2019. Smaller measures can be taken as early as 2018, depending on how the budget allows.

With the campaign money, the city will also implement a communication campaign related to traffic safety during next spring and autumn 2018.
