Does anyone from the city have memories of the plot's past?

The construction work of the future Juhonkodi in Imatrankoski started with a surprise.

At the beginning of the land clearing work, an old landfill was revealed in the terrain.

According to a preliminary estimate, household waste has been placed on the ground, as soft drink bottles, for example, were found.

- We have no information about when the plot has been considered a landfill. Was there perhaps a pit in the area where waste was thrown? We would be very interested to hear the memories of those who lived in Imatra about the plot, CEO of Mitra Management Lassi Nurmi says.

The household waste may well be more than 50 years old.

The land clearance work will be suspended until the size of the landfill and the quality of the waste can be investigated. An environmental consultant has been commissioned to investigate the matter.

-         The waste found in the area must be removed during the construction work. At the same time, the cleanliness of the soil in the area must be ensured, says the environmental inspector Arto Ahonen.

The plot of the future Juhonkodi is located at the corner of Heikinkatu and Esterinkatu. Building materials have been stored on the empty lot in recent years.

Juhonkoti will be Imatra Vuokra-asunnot Oy's property for 15 special group service residents. The South Karelia welfare area is responsible for the services in the property.

The goal is for Juhonkoti to be completed in the summer of 2024.

Passenger home Hansa was…

The passenger home Hansa was above the corner lot on Heikinkatu. There were two residential buildings on the corner lot, a two-story gray house and another small low building. Between the buildings was an elongated outbuilding. On the other side of Esterinkatu was a red house behind the big fir trees. A memory picture from the 60s

It is not about the inn…

It's not about the land of the inn, but about the red detached house on the opposite side of the intersection, which was a bit shabby. The house was there at least at the end of the 70s.
