The service hours of libraries and museums are changing

Release
31.1.2022 17:28
Museum opening hours and library service hours end at 16 pm on summer Fridays and eve days.

Libraries' service hours on Christmas Eve and summer Fridays change. In the future, the service hours are on eves and summer Fridays in the main library from 11 am to 16 pm, in the Vuoksenniska and Rajapatsa libraries from 10 am to 16 pm.

Museum opening hours will also change. The city museum, the art museum and the Aisle gallery will close on eves and summer Fridays at 16 pm.

—The change will be seen in practice for the first time on Maundy Thursday, April 14.4, head of the culture and learning center Sarianna Purtilo says.

The change in service hours is a return to the old practice.

—We had separate eve and summer Friday opening hours until the end of 2019. Eve and summer evenings are almost always quiet, and all libraries can also be visited on your own outside of service hours. A return to the old ways is therefore justified, says Purtilo.

The libraries' opening hours remain unchanged. You can visit the main library on your own every day from 8 am to 20 pm. In Rajapatsa and Vuoksenniska libraries, self-service time is every day from 7 am to 21 pm.

Fridays in June, July and August are counted as summer Fridays. Eve days also include Christmas Eve and Midsummer Eve, because on Christmas and Midsummer Eve the library has no service hours at all and the museums are completely closed.
