Helpful books deal with emotional skills and challenging topics. The "Grown up with picture books" project continues until the end of November.

Imatra's city library has started a new project called "Kuvakkirin gyvstättu". Librarian of the children's and youth departments Tiina Rossi travels around during November telling about picture books to early childhood education staff, elementary school teachers, church group leaders and other professionals working with young children.

- I would like to recommend picture books to the staff that deal with challenging situations and topics faced by children. Such are, for example, family problems, death or issues related to gender, Rossi says.

Through professionals, the library also tries to reach families with children who do not use the library. The hope is to increase their awareness of the importance of literacy and the versatility of children's literature.

- Literature can help deal with difficult topics in a way that a child can understand, says Rossi.

There is still space in Ross's calendar if you want to book a book tip for your community working with children or training in the field. Tips can be arranged at workplaces or in the main library. It would be good to reserve at least 45 minutes for them.

- However, a slightly more conversational literary moment would require about an hour and a half, Rossi advises.

With his tips, Rossi will also participate in the Children's Land events organized by the city in Vuoksenniska, Sienimäki and Savikanna on November 21-23.11. The events are free and open to everyone.

The "Grown with Pictures" project has received the support of the Regional Administrative Agency of Southern Finland.
