The fire and ice event is organized by Vuoksi fishing park. The fishing park won the competition in which the city of Imatra manages Visit Vuoksi project looking for producers for two winter events.

The purpose of the Visit Vuoksi project is to develop the sustainable use of Vuoksi in both Finland and Russia. The operating models and methods have been put together together with the Russian event organizer, and now they are also being tested in Finland.

—At the February event, we offer, among other things, information and support to the organizers. The dishes used in the event are made of renewable materials and the dishes are collected separately as part of other recycling. , Kähtävä-Marttinen says.

Free public transport is also part of the pilot: it remains to be determined whether the operating model could be implemented more widely.

The experts of the CBC Visit project gather experience about operating methods at the Fire and Ice event. In 2023, a second winter event will be organized at Imatra, where operating methods will be tested further.

In addition, two events related to the project will be organized on the Russian side, where the principles of sustainable event organization will also be tested.
