Teams are measured in the Dragon Boat Race.

Sunday 7.7. A playful dragon boat event is organized again in Imatra. The actual paddling competition starts at 12 o'clock in the bay of Varpasaari.

A total of 4-5 teams, each with 12-20 members, participate in Dragonboat kayaking. The event is organized as an invitational competition and is implemented as part of the South Karelia Association's Asia project. The cities of Imatra and Lappeenranta are involved in the arrangements.

The rowing team chooses a drummer who is responsible for the rhythm of rowing and a coxswain who steers the boat. The final team acts as paddlers, maintaining the speed of the boat. Team members are equipped with paddles and life jackets. The total paddling distance is 260 meters.

The teams are expected to dress colorfully and fun. Before leaving in the afternoon, the team has the opportunity to familiarize themselves with the sport and practice paddling during the morning hours between 9 and 11:30. Training schedules have been distributed to the registered teams. The actual competition will take place during the afternoon, starting at 12 o'clock. The event is carried out in batches of two dragon boat teams.

Participation in kayaking is free of charge. However, the teams take care of the travel, food and clothing costs of their own team members themselves.

Cheerleaders are also an important part of the event – the team can recruit their own cheerleaders on the beaches to cheer on their favorite team. The race offers supporters the opportunity to spend a colorful and different Sunday following a special sports event. While teaming up, you can also enjoy, for example, a family picnic on the shores of the bay. In addition to kayaking, other Asian-oriented culture is offered on site. The Vuoksi fishing park's restaurant is also open.

Welcome to Varpasaari to watch how team spirit and technique bend - in the rhythm of the drummer and the command of the coxswain.
