Repair measures also started in Linnala.

At Imatrankoski school, the renovation of two classrooms will be carried out this summer, which will improve the indoor air quality of those spaces.

― Problems related to air quality have been detected in these, the space management and safety manager who chairs the indoor air working group Sami Turunen says.

The premises have been examined by indoor air house Kärje.

― The investigations revealed that the intermediate floor structure of the premises is exceptional compared to the other premises of the school.

Damage was found in the intermediate floor structure, and there is an air connection from the intermediate floor to the classroom spaces mentioned above.

The expert who completed the study has prepared a proposal for remedial measures in which the air connections of the structural joints are sealed. Repairs will be carried out during the summer of 2018.

At the same time, the ventilation of the textile work class is improved.

Repairs also in Linnala

During the summer, repairs are also carried out in Linnala. The joint between the wall and the floor of the school's first floor is already being sealed, and tightness tests will be carried out afterwards. In addition, an external expert will carry out structural studies on the outer wall of the canteen, which was renewed in 2010.

― In connection with the investigations, it has been revealed that dust has been released from the linoleum floors into the indoor air. As a result, the floor coating is changed in classes 131 and 132, where the symptoms have occurred the most.

In the fall, a symptom survey is conducted after school starts. In the spring, a symptom questionnaire was not conducted, because the effect of pollen cannot be completely excluded in the symptom questionnaire. According to the instructions of THL, or the Institute of Health and Welfare, and the Regional Administration Office (AVI), symptom surveys should not be conducted during the pollen season. This could distort follow-up.

The city has commissioned an external NindUX situation survey for staff and students in April.

― No one has at any point questioned the fact that there are no symptoms in Linnala. We set out with the principle of doing things first, and we wanted to find out the premises where the symptoms are present. THL also recommends surveys in which the users of the premises answer themselves.

NindUX, i.e. the company that conducted the survey, denies that a direct report cannot be published, because the results can be indirectly linked to the respondent. The official statement that the data protection issues are in order was received by YH-Rakennuttaj the other week. It can be viewed at YH-Rakennuttaja's office.

The situation at Linnala school will be discussed as an additional matter in the environmental committee on June 12.6, in the welfare committee on June 20.6. and in the city council on 25.6.
