Imatra is campaigning to increase the popularity of public transport

The campaign, which will last the rest of the year, started with free days for local transport.

At the end of the year, the city of Imatra will promote local traffic more strongly than usual with the support of a project funded by Traficom.

During the year, the project has investigated the effects of the corona virus on public transport passenger numbers, as well as the strengths and development needs of Imatra's public transport together with the project's main target groups, young people and the elderly. 

The project organized a workshop for young people in October, where they thought about how to get young people to use public transport.   

Traffic engineer Only Vuopion according to the young people's image of public transport is very positive. On the other hand, quite a bit is known about local traffic, although information is available.

- We are trying to bring information to the fore and make people realize that many places can be reached and that the ticket offer already takes into account different passengers and needs. That's why we decided on marketing measures containing information and a campaign encouraging people to try public transport, says Vuopio. 

Marketing material has been prepared on payment, routes and the practices of traveling by public transport, which will be distributed at the end of the year on social media, in the local newspaper and as instruction leaflets, which can be obtained, for example, from the city hall's customer service and on the bus. 

- The City Hall's customer service also helps with questions related to public transport. You can also contact them there, Vuopio encourages.

The campaign includes two marketing videos that highlight the ease of traveling and paying by bus. The videos to be published in December convey the good feeling that choosing a sustainable and practical form of transportation can create.

Discounts on prices during the project

In their feedback, both young people and older people found free days and ticket discounts to be good ways to increase the interest of public transport, so season tickets are now offered at a discounted price and there are plenty of free days at the end of the year. 

- Winter is a good time to try public transport on everyday trips. Now you should get a 30- or 90-day season ticket. You can get it with a 30 percent discount if you buy a ticket on November 29.11. - Between 10.12.2021, Vuopio encourages.
