The South Karelia Waste Board operates as a joint board for all nine municipalities in South Karelia. The Waste Board consists of seven members, three of whom are from Lappeenranta, two from Imatra, one from the Parikkala, Rautjärvi and Ruokolahti areas, and one from the Lemi, Luumäki, Savitaipale and Taipalsaari areas.
The host municipality of the Waste Board is the City of Imatra, by decision of the municipalities. The task of the Waste Board is to monitor the implementation of the Waste Act in its area of operation. Decisions by the authorities on waste management are made at meetings of the Waste Board, and in certain respects the Waste Board has delegated decision-making to officials.
The Waste Board generally meets 4-5 times a year. Agendas are available on the website approximately one week before the board meeting and after the minutes have been reviewed.
